Science Museum of Minnesota Workers Vote Overwhelmingly to Join Together in a Union with the AFSCME Council 5 Family
South St. Paul, MN- AFSCME Council 5 Executive Director Julie Bleyhl released the following statement after the votes have been counted in the union election initiated by workers at the Science Museum of Minnesota:
"Workers at the Science Museum of Minnesota have voted overwhelmingly to join together in a union with the AFSCME Council 5 family, calling for dignity and respect for the work they do," said Executive Director Julie Bleyhl. "In spite of a significant anti-union pressure campaign by Science Museum of Minnesota management, these workers spoke decisively that they seek a voice in the workplace, fair pay for a day's work, dignified paid leave policies, and more. These workers will have the full support of our union as they continue their momentum and fight for dignity and respect as they negotiate a first contract with the Science Museum of Minnesota that lifts everyone up.
"AFSCME Council 5, our labor union of more than 43,000 working people, proudly welcomes the workers at the Science Museum of Minnesota to our union family and the broader labor movement in our collective effort to fight for social, economic, and racial justice for all working people.
"This successful organizing victory follows countless workers across Minnesota at the Minnesota Historical Society, Regions Hospital, Cornerstone, and many others who have chosen to be part of the AFSCME Council 5 family to fight for bold and transformative investments, reforms, and change they need and deserve to live a dignified life. With their unified voice, these workers will ensure the Science Museum of Minnesota is a more equitable, safe, and thriving place to work and for the public to learn."
