AFSCME Local 2822 - MOU Details & Voting Information

After meeting with the employer on January 22, 2020, we now have a Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) for members to vote on. A Memorandum of Understanding allows our local, with the vote of the membership, to make an amendment to our contract prior to its expiration. All members of Local 2822 are eligible to vote on this MOU, although the direct impact is limited to our coworkers working as Service Center Representatives and Service Center Representatives, Senior.

After the County approached us for a change to the pay ranges for Service Center Representative and Service Center Representative, Sr per Article 38, Section 5 of our contract, our team made our counter proposal for wage increases of 10% to all incumbents of the job classes of Service Center Representative and Service Center Representative Senior, with additional adjustments to the ranges for those job classes to bring them to market value. Our proposal also included retroactive pay.

In meeting with the County, we were able to gain more information about their market study and methodology. We will utilize this information as we continue to push forward for better wages and prepare for our next round of contract negotiations in 2021. We did receive a last, best and final offer from the County on January 22, and that is what our membership must vote on. The offer is as follows:

  • Service Center Representative: Change the range to $17.09 - $25.60 from current $16.77- $23.62
  • Service Center Representative, Senior: Change the range to $18.84 - $28.26 from current $17.62- $27.10

This MOU would take effect on for the pay period following the end of the vote. Any current employees below the new minimums will be moved to meet the new minimums.

The voting sites and times are as follows:

  • February 5: Minneapolis Central Library in the Doty Board Room, 6:30-8:30 p.m. (during membership meeting)
  • February 6: Maple Grove Service Center, 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Center Conference Room

We want to thank our team and all of the Service Center workers for showing the importance of continuing to talk with each other and push the County for better wages in the service centers and to dissuade misinformation. We also want to thank everyone who signed our petition and wore their union shirts in support of our efforts.
